Luttrellstown Castle Resort Golf Club

Club of the Month Archive

Luttrellstown Castle Resort situated in the famous Strawberry Beds area of Dublin is a treasure.

Although the castle itself has been around from the early 15th century, the golf course at Luttrellstown is a relatively new feature on what is a stunning 567 acre country estate featuring breathtaking parkland with undulating hills punctuated with lakes and mature woodland to form a beautiful, natural, landscape filled with native Irish flora and fauna. The course offers panoramic views over the River Liffey with the Dublin Mountains as a backdrop.

The golf course blends in perfectly with what must surely be the one of the most stunning estates in Ireland, steeped in history and literally on the doorstep on Dublin City Centre making it an ideal choice for a Dublin City Golfing break.

Luttrellstown Golf

The course is immaculate in every sense, a classic championship course with a variety of tees to provide a tough test and with sculptured fairways and greens that provide speed, consistency and doubt in the mind of the player.

It starts with a gentle Par 4 downhill with cleverly placed bunkers and a well protected, slightly elevated green, followed by a winding Par 5 uphill that sets the standard for the day. These two holes are just to get you in the mood, as it can all come crashing down around you after that!

The holes get tricky from here on in, with four consecutive card wreckers, first an semi island green that must be attacked from a height, then a tough Par 3 with a little water to distract, an extremely tricky short dog leg Par 4, followed by what some people may refer to as the shortest Par 4 in Ireland. In reality it is a long uphill tricky Par 3 that you must either shape your shot dramatically or carry 170 yards of prickly gorse.

If these four holes do serious damage to your card, do not fear, for there the rest of the course is littered with beautiful shapely holes that cross picturesque lakes, run alongside streams, and give lovely views of the famous Luttrellstown Castle.

Luttrellstown Castle Resort is an excellent golf course and well worth its place as one of Dublin’s and indeed Ireland’s top parkland courses, its proximity to the City Centre and indeed Dublin Airport make it an ideal choice.

It says on their website that Luttrellstown Castle Resort is a playground waiting to entertain you, and I tend to agree with them.
