Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort

Club of the Month Archive

The Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort, in County Limerick on the River Maigue can be summed up in one simple word “Perfect”...

There are many world class golf courses in Ireland but there is no other like the Adare Manor Hotel & Golf Resort. It is quite simply a mix of sheer elegance, architectural genius and breathtaking beauty, add this to the wonderful service that you will receive and that is what gives this famous resort its kudos.

Situated in one of Irelands most picturesque villages of Adare, it is an oasis of tranquillity on the road to Killarney.

The course itself is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece of beautiful sculpted golf holes in the sweeping parklands of the 840 acre estate.

The front and back 9 are contrasting in aspect in that the first 9 meanders around the lovely lakes and river Maigue and the back 9 brings you on a journey through the wooded parkland culminating in fine views of the Manor House in the stretch.

Each hole presents its own challenges, but it is a course that requires accuracy and demands respect. The are some great risk / reward holes, tricky Par 3’s, exciting Par 4’s and inviting Par 5’s.  The holes which stand out in my own mind would be the Par 5 7th hole around a lake that invites disaster but rewards confidence and it would be hard to find a more exciting last 4 holes.

The 15th is a short par 4, River Maigue separating the fairway and Manor House, demands nerves and accuracy, the 16th Par 3 is a 160 carry over water to a sliding green, the 17th Par 4 brings you back into the Sylvan Wonderland before what is one of the most exciting holes in Irish Golf. The Par 5 18th is only 548 yards from the championship tee, but with the river on one side, lake on the other, the narrow fairway is hard to find, if you do, you have the choice of taking a long iron or wood at the postage stamp green at the other side of the river, or a very short iron for position to take on the water. A daunting climax but a hole that has provided great entertainment in the many golf events held at the Manor.
